In a U.S. News and World Report column today, National Taxpayers Union President Pete Sepp encourages President Trump and both parties in Congress to support a simpler, fairer and modernized tax system for Americans, writing in part:
“There’s no question as to why tax reform remains among the top priorities for Trump and for congressional leaders. The nation’s outdated and clumsy tax system saddles businesses with some of the world’s highest tax rates, hurts families and entrepreneurs, creates an uneven playing field for American companies and suppresses capital investment that could create new jobs.
The tax code is the answer to many questions about why the U.S. economy continues to experience anemic performance, some of which may not be readily apparent. A recent National Taxpayers Union Foundation study determined that the current federal income tax maze costs Americans $263 billion to navigate; these are compliance expenses associated just with filing taxes.”
